Four Levels of Consciousness
I am listening to a series of teleconferences by Ken W. Stone titled “4 Days of Healing: The Embodied Messenger.”
In the first call he identified four levels of consciousness:
- Victim Consciousness
- Manifesting or Controlling Consciousness
- Conduit Consciousness
- Union Consciousness
The following is a discussion of my thoughts on this.
I’m sure we are all familiar with victim consciousness. We’ve all been there and find ourselves there still from time to time. This is where we blame others or fate or bad luck or whatever for what happens in our lives. Poor me – why me – that sort of thing.
Manifesting or controlling consciousness is where we take responsibility. We are creating our own life. Everything is a reflection of our thoughts and feelings. We are to blame for everything. I remember one of the first workshops I did back in the 80s when we were sitting around in a circle sharing. If an emergency vehicle went by with the sirens going while we were sharing we had to explain what that was about. It happened while we were sharing so we created it and it must have something to do with what we were saying.
Conduit consciousness is perhaps less familiar. We are the vessel for the divine and allow it to flow through us without attempting to control it. I teach Reiki this way – we allow the energy to flow through us to do what is needed without trying to control it. Actually we cannot control the flow of universal energy through us to someone else and when we attempt to we only interfere and limit what can occur.
Union consciousness is when we become one with the divine. When we embody our divine essence or soul and live as one with the One. I think this is what Jesus meant when he said “The Father and I are One.” I think of is as living a Soul directed life or allowing my soul rather than my mind to run the show. This is my intention but I have to admit I’m not there.
I found this an interesting way to view the various levels of consciousness. One is not better than another – it is just where we are. We can love and accept ourselves where we are on the consciousness scale at any given time. We can accept others for where they are as well and not judge them – or ourselves – for not being at a different level. Everyone is on their own journey and
